In addition to teaching, Bannister was also passionate about music, and worked with the school choir on many projects. It also hosted a student club for aspiring singers.
“Known as the Windsor Songbier, Mrs. Bannister has used her musical talents to bring a great deal of joy to our school,” said Dennis Quickle, principal of Windsor Elementary School.
At a school attendance event last year, I wrote a song about the importance of not missing classes on “Old Town Road”, the popular song by rapper Lil Nas X.
“The song and the video were a huge hit with our school family,” said Koekle. “Mrs. Bannister loved her students and never missed an opportunity for student advocacy and public education.”
She was in school on August 28th
The school district was notified that it had tested positive for coronavirus on Friday. It followed clearance procedures, contact tracing, and reporting contacts.
The school district said that contact tracing and notification were based on the date of the last time she was in elementary school, which was August 28. She started the school year three days later, teaching her students almost from home.
