Grammy Award-winning R&B member Pamela Hutchinson, The Emotions, has passed away at the age of 61.

She was the youngest sister of the main band members Sheila, Wanda and Janet Hutchinson, and she sang on her biggest single The best of my love.

The news of her death was confirmed on The Emotions Facebook page.

“In loving remembrance, we are saddened to announce the death of our sister, Pamela Rose Hutchinson, on Friday, September 18, 2020,” a press release said.

Pam succumbed to health challenges that she had been struggling with for several years. Now our beautiful sister will sing among the angels in Heaven in complete peace.

“Thank you and as always, you got the best of our love. Emotions.”

The band emerged from Chicago in the 1960s, where the sisters were gospel singers when they were young.

After achieving local success, they signed legendary R&B company Stax, working with the likes of Isaac Hayes and David Porter.

When Stax collapsed, the group was taken under the wing of Maurice White from Earth, Wind & Fire, who produced two of their albums and co-wrote Best Of My Love.

The Emotions hit back by loaning their chords to Earth and Wind & Fire’s disco anthem Boogie Wonderland In 1979.

Pamela joined her sisters just in time for their pop success – even though she only appeared on one album, before she became a permanent member in the early 2000s.

This incarnation collaborated with rapper Snoop Dogg on a song called Life, from the 2006 album Tha Blue Carpet Treatment.

In her statement, The Emotions added: “We appreciate all the kind words, pictures and videos that you would like to post to our beloved Pamela and of course your loving prayers.

“A beautiful life deserves to be beautifully remembered. We love you, Pamela!”
