Two London police officers attacked each other in a ‘shocking’ incident

Videos surfaced on social media showing a man nailed to the ground and kicked before a female officer intervened. Then an argument takes place for about a minute between two officers and a group of people.

Wednesday’s incident drew a sharp response from British Police Association and local secretary Priti Patel, who wrote on Twitter that the attack was “sick, shocking and embarrassing”.

“We are not the motto of society,” Metropolitan Police Federation President Ken Marsh added in a statement. “On this occasion, our colleagues gratefully report only minor injuries – but the reality could have been much worse.”

Metropolitan police confirmed on Thursday that two men had been arrested.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said: “Attacks on our police will not be tolerated.” He added: “These brave officers were doing their duty and helping the public – I wish them a speedy recovery.”

Khan supported protests that led to tens of thousands taking to the streets in London and other UK cities, but condemned the small number of protesters involved in tense scenes with officers.

As in the United States, many protesters point to police brutality against blacks and people the higher rate at which blacks are imprisoned.
