Thousands whose income has been reduced on universal credit are in line for additional payments of up to £ 405.

Thousands of disabled people whose income was reduced when they switched to the universal credit system are in line for an additional payment of up to £ 405 a month from October.

Credit claimants currently cannot receive Severe Disability Premium Payment (SDP), which is an additional amount paid with some benefits tested to help cover the cost of disability.

There’s a transition process in place for this and Justin Tomlinson, State Secretary for the Disabled, spoke about it recently in Parliament. Express reports.

The blanket credit has replaced six existing heritage benefits that will be completely replaced by 2024. There are still people who claim old benefits and may also be able to receive SDP payments if they have certain disabilities.

For people who are entitled to SDP on some of the old benefits and who then claim or move to universal credit, they may be entitled to compensation payments.

In addition, transitional payments may be available and DWP is endeavoring to determine who should be entitled to the said compensation.

Interestingly, if a claimant is entitled to a SDP on income support, employment allowance and income-related support, or job seeker allowance or housing benefit, and a claimant for mass credit after January 16, 2019, he can also choose to return to benefits replacing the global credit .

Yesterday, in a written statement made by Justin Tomlinson, SDP transitions were addressed.

He also said in detail: “I also want to update the House of Representatives on the latest developments regarding the management of Severely Disabled Transitional Payments (SDP).

On July 22, 2019, we put in place legislation to provide additional financial support to former SDP recipients who had moved to Universal Credit due to changing circumstances.

“As of January 17, 2020, we have already paid over 15,000 people, totaling more than £ 51.5 million.

“ The UC (Managed Immigration Pilot Model and Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations 2019 provide for the conversion of these transitional payments into transitional elements.

“This means that payments will be made through the Unified Communications System and not manually, and all transitional protection will be subject to the same rules.

“I will mark the date of the transfer until October 8, 2020 and put a copy in the library.

“This is when the UC system will have the ability to convert transitional SDP payments into transitional items.”

In 2019, the government revised its transitional payment levels and increased monthly payments.

Payments will depend on whether the claim covers one person or two spouses and whether it has limited capacity for work and the range of work-related activities.

Payments were raised to £ 120, £ 285 or £ 405 a month depending on circumstances.

Legacy claimants do not need to transfer to a universal credit program unless circumstances change.

In addition, the DWP may send claimants a letter requesting them to move to blanket credit.
