Brazilian striker Neymar left training early Wednesday because of back pain that could have forced him to miss Friday’s opening match in the World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia.

Brazil’s national team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar told reporters at the training ground in Teresópolis that Neymar has already started receiving treatment, but it is too early to say whether he will be fit for the match at the Neocimica Arena in Sao Paulo.

Lasmar said the next 24 hours will be crucial to see how he will recover.

Footage posted by the Brazilian Football Federation on social media showed Neymar putting his hands on his back and kneeling on the pitch.

Brazil has already lost two key matches in the opening rounds of the World Cup qualifiers, with goalkeeper Alison and striker Gabriel Jesus injured.
