Liverpool announces loaning of Karius and Grabara

Liverpool announced today that outcast Lloris Karius and young goalkeeper Kamel Grabara have left on season-long loan deals to Union Berlin and AGF Aarhus, respectively.

Karius’ exit is not at all surprising, as the German captain with Merseyside was eliminated after his mistakes ultimately cost Liverpool in the 2018 UEFA Champions League Final against Real Madrid.

The 27-year-old has spent the last two seasons on loan to Besiktas, where Karius has endured a mixed spell that saw him make 67 appearances for the Turkish giants.

While the decision to loan Grabara is certainly not a surprise – with regular first-team football to develop the goalkeeper – the destination is entirely questionable.

The Polish Under-21 champions are returning to the AGF after a loan spell in the second half of the 18/19 season, but Grabara spent his final spell at Huddersfield so the move is a big step down.

Regardless, sending these two teams away from regular football is undoubtedly the right decision with Allison’s hardness as No.1 in the team and Adrian San Miguel comfortable in the role of Liverpool’s reserve goalkeeper.
