The PS5 Teardown lets you peek inside to see what makes it tick

Sony does not recommend taking your PS5 apart, but you can still see how it looks thanks to this official video from the PS5.

Enter the world of the unknown. Peek inside the PS5 and see what makes it tick. Literally. This video on PS5 shows console components. Plus a couple of hidden gems.

More specifically, there appears to be at least one or two things about the PS5 that was previously unknown. However, they are now known. And if nothing else, this gives a unique insight into what powers Sony’s next-generation console.

It’s also a first look at the hardware. And for many, this will be the last time they see it unless they intend to dismantle and mess with the console.

Sony shows how easy it is to take off the PS5 side panels while ripping

If for any reason you need to take off the side panels, it doesn’t look like it will be difficult to do.

In the disassembly process, side panels are removed to access internal hardware. It doesn’t take much effort to get them to come out. The panel on one side appears to have a clamp locking mechanism that allows removal by simply moving the clips in one direction as you pull up.

The other panel appears to be secured the same way. This would also make it very easy for companies to create aftermarket side panels to customize your console. Sony can also produce and sell its own products. Or, you can just customize the panels yourself if you know how to do this kind of thing.

For some consumers, this is probably the most exciting part of the disassembly process. Simply because of the console’s customization capabilities to make the unit even more distinct.

The PS5 has two dust catchers, and you can vacuum both

Sony didn’t just make the PS5 more powerful. The console was engineered with what appears to be more than a few quality of life improvements.

One of these is having two dust catchers. After the fan draws in air from the outside, any dust that collects in a dust collector is filtered. If you need to, you can empty it.

Sony has designed and implemented dedicated nozzles for cleaning dust collected by dust collectors. This will help you to keep the console as clean as possible. Or to some extent, and at least more efficiently than you can on the PS4.

Since there’s a little bit you have to take it apart here. Literally all you have to do is take off the side panels and use a small vacuum cleaner in these holes and you’re done.

Double sided air intake fan is 45mm thick

Sony’s next-generation console will pull in a lot of air. What looks like two fans, one on either side of the console, is actually one super thick fan. 45mm thickness to be exact.

It is also 120mm in diameter and is double-sided, which is why there appears to be one fan per side. Because the single fan that keeps the console cool during use exposes the entire unit in its vertical position.

Sony used liquid metal for long lasting stable cooling

Sony PS5 Teardown 2

Another great innovation (no pun intended) on the PS5 is the console’s liquid-cooling solution. Sony says it took two years to adopt this technology for the console. And about five years to design and develop the whole console.

When it comes to cooling, one of the main issues with the PS4 was its inability to stay cool during long gaming sessions. This caused the crowds to rise. As a result, your PS4 can be quite loud if you have one of the older models.

With a new double-sided pull fan and liquid cooling technology, the PS5 should be able to keep cool for longer and run quieter at the same time. All in all will help translate it into better performance in the long run.
