San Francisco 49 Players Off The Bench Jimmy Garoppolo fights for CJ Beathard vs. the Dolphins
Santa Clara, California – San Francisco 49ers midfielder Jimmy Garoppolo from a right ankle sprain lasted for half a day Sunday against the Miami Dolphin only.
Garoppolo started on Sunday after missing two games due to an injury he sustained in the second week of his victory over the New York Jets. But he, along with the rest of the Niners, struggled hard as the Dolphins led 30-7 at the end of the first half. Coach Kyle Shanahan has decided to return to reserve CG Beatard to start the third quarter.
According to Fox Broadcast, Shanahan said in the first half that he was “concerned” about Garoppolo and decided to go with Beatard because he “wanted to protect” Garoppolo. Garoppolo was under pressure for most of the first half as the dolphins sacked him three times and he was hit with four quarterbacks. He threw a pair of second-quarter interceptions as he struggled to rest in the pocket.
In his two quarters, Garoppolo was a 7 out of 17 for 77 yards with no landing and two interceptions to rate a bystander from 15.7. Piattard played well but was unable to make a comeback as the Niners lost 43-17. He finished 9 out of 18 for 94 yards and landings.
Beatard was showing his second relief within several weeks. He stepped in instead of Nick Mullins’ last week’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and nearly led Team 49 to a late win.
After that performance, Shanahan promoted Beatard to second in midfield this week with Garoppolo regaining his first job.
