Police descend into downtown Glasgow after a police officer is stabbed

Assistant Chief of Police with Scottish Police Steve Johnson said the male suspect was shot by armed police and the officer was injured while dealing with the incident.

“We are continuing to deal with the incident on West George #Glasgow Street and we would ask people to avoid the area,” Johnson said.

“However, I would like to assure the public that this is a closed incident and that the general public is not at risk. The attack was attended by armed police officers and I can confirm that the suspected man was shot by an armed officer.

“I would like to reassure the public that we are not looking for anyone else at this time in connection with this incident. I can also confirm that a police officer was injured while dealing with the incident and that this officer is being treated at the hospital.” Johnson said.

The street is currently closed and the public is being asked to avoid the area immediately. The situation is currently in a state of emergency and there is no danger to the general public.”
The Scottish Police Federation, which represents honorable police officers, Tweeted: “We are aware of reports that a police officer was stabbed in an incident in downtown #Glasgow. Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has asked the public via Twitter to avoid the area of ​​Glasgow’s West George Street where the incident took place, while police are dealing with it.
