The second group of Champions League first-leg matches were held across Europe on Wednesday as six other teams sought to set the tone for their efforts to qualify for the group stage of the competition. He faced Gent against Dynamo Kiev in Belgium, Molde went up against Ferencváros in Norway, and Olympiacos played Omonoia in Greece.
These matches come on the heels of Tuesday’s group matches, which saw RB Salzburg and Krasnodar take important steps towards qualifying for the group stage.

Dynamo Kiev 2, Gent 1
Vladislav Sobriha opened the scoring for this match, and narrowly avoided the offside call thanks to the VAR review after he had hit his shot. Gent tied with his head free from a corner kick, but dampened his momentum when Roman Bezos was sent off with two yellow cards, raising the Belgian team to 10 men. The Ukrainian side took advantage of the extra space, leading to a goal by Carlos de Pena who walked between the goalkeeper’s legs for two goals.
Even Kiev had the highlight of the match, with cameras picking up players to decide who would take a dangerous free-kick with a black-scissors game.
Molde 3, Ferencvaros 3
This goal festival kicked off just seven minutes after the match, with Frank Polley scoring a low cross to give his team an early lead on away goals. Neither team was able to put either of them in the net until the second half, which Mirto Ouzoni turned on to double Ferencvaros’ lead. Three of Molde’s goals put them ahead in the 83rd minute, 3-2, but the Hungarian team leveled with a penalty kick in the 87th minute.
Olympiacos 1, Omonoia 0
A penalty kick in the 69th minute of the match turned into a double in this match. Jan Lecjaks was booked for handball in the penalty area and French international Matteo Valbuena was able to transfer from his place. The Greek side was keen to secure its victory with a goal in overtime from Youssef Al-Arabi.
Krasnodar 2, PAUK 1
Demetris Belkas scored the opening goal of the match in favor of PAOK, but Victor Kleson equalized with a penalty that was awarded a few minutes after that opening match. Remy Kabila’s brace came after an impressive build from Krasnodar in the 70th minute. Check out:
RB Salzburg 2, Maccabi Tel Aviv 1
Dan Beaton raised his sheer beauty to the goalkeeper during the first ten minutes of the match to give his Israeli side the lead early on. Salzburg, led by US coach Jesse Marsh, tied with a penalty kick by Dominic Zoboszlai and then took the lead when Masaya Okogawa managed to smash a goal after building strong from his team.
Slavia Prague 0, Central Gotland 0
The only negative draw in the evening happened in Prague. Midtjylland’s Jesper Hansen was technically the busiest goalkeeper, having to deal with four shots on goal – his team rallied only two – but not much happened on the offensive side of either side. All this could be decided by one shot in Herning, Denmark next week.
