PSNI fines for violating Covid-19 restrictions have been handed out to nearly 1,600 people

Nearly 1,600 fines were handed out to people for violating them Covid-19 Restrictions.

From March to Monday, October 26, police issued 1,598 fines for violating the restrictions, most of which happen in Belfast.

Of the 1075 CRN distributed, the majority were in Belfast, with 324, followed by Derry City Strappan with 154.

Notice issued to prohibit 319 commercial buildings for violating restrictions and 81 private buildings.

Existing enforcement penalties applied include:

• Notice of a fixed £ 60 fine for breaching Covid-19 regulations – £ 30 if paid in 14 days
• Fines for subsequent offenses can double each time to a maximum of £ 960 if people persistently break the rules
• A £ 1,000 fine for breaching Covid-19 travel rules, such as failing to quarantine upon return from listed countries
• A fine of up to £ 5,000 if the person is convicted in court
