Game summary
After a dominant win in the match that brought them together two weeks ago, the West Virginia Mountaineers felt humbled on Saturday. They were successful against the Oklahoma Cowboys, falling 27-13. If West Virginia were hoping for revenge for the 20-13 loss to Oklahoma when the two teams met last November, they were disappointed.
Cowboys can attribute much of their success to RB LD Brown, who scrambled for a single TD and 103 yards on 11 wagons. This landing – a 66-yard dash in the second quarter – was one of the highlights of the competition. Oklahoma State received some extra help from DE Tyren Irby, who wore it 56 yards back to land in the second quarter of one of the game’s most memorable moments.
The Oklahoma State Defense was also present, crossing the West Virginia offensive line to sack QB Jarret Doege five times. The road led by LB Calvin Pondage and Shawalee. Those were Pondage’s first sachets until the fourth week.
WR Winston Wright Jr. did not help. Mountaineers in causing all that much against the Eastern Colonel in Kentucky two weeks ago, but the same cannot be said about this game. West Virginia’s defeat came despite a match quality from Wright Jr. , Who has four assists for one TD and 103 yards. One of the most exciting moments was Wright Junior’s reception at 70 yards at TD in the second quarter.
The loss brought West Virginia back to a 1-1 draw. The win puts him two places in a row for the Cowboys and pushes his record down to 2-0.
The Mountaineers will face the Baylor Bears at noon EST next Saturday at the Mountaineer Stadium at Milan Pushkar Stadium. Oklahoma State is preparing to pack up and heading on the road for its first away game of the season. They will face the Kansas Jokes next Saturday at Kivisto Stadium at the David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium at 3:30 PM ET. Unlike Oklahoma, Kansas will swing after a loss.
