Indonesian Lion Air restarts flights, cancels them again

(CNN) – Just a few weeks after the resumption of domestic flights, Indonesian Lion Air has canceled them again, citing problems with non-Covid-19 passengers.

The Lion Air Group, which also includes Batik Air and Wings Air, began slowly reintroducing short-haul flight routes, but the renewed flights did not last long.

The company announced that all routes from June 5 were suspended again due to widespread problems with passengers who do not properly follow the rules related to coronavirus regarding social distancing and health discoveries.

In a press release, responsible for Lion Air explains that “many potential passengers were unable to make air travel because they did not meet the necessary documents and conditions during the alert period of the Corona Virus 2019 pandemic (Covid-19).”
Several international flights offered by the airline have also been canceled. In normal operations, Lion Air also flies to Saudi Arabia, China. Malaysia and Singapore.
The Jakarta-based airline has taken steps to ensure safety in the vehicle, such as locking the middle seats, deep cleaning planes and replacement of HEPA filters in aircraft in which any passenger is suspected of having the disease.

In announcing the decision, Lion Air expressed particular concern for the health of employees, especially cabin crew who are at risk of coronavirus infection from passengers.

“Lion Air Group supports the government in its efforts to prevent the spread of Covid-19, by actively participating in the implementation of health protocols established by the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Health and the working group,” the company said in a statement issued June 3.
