Fourth week unknown hero: Matthew Godon

Baltimore’s defense played an impressive role in Week 4, successfully creating a hostile environment for Washington mid-back Dwayne Haskins through constant pressure and heavy blows on the receivers. There were many great performances throughout the match, but there can only be one unknown champion of the week.

From what I saw, the exit from this game was a sensation for players like Mark AndrewsAnd the Marlon HumphreyAnd Lamar Jackson. They all deserve all the praise they receive, but Matthew Godon has made his best game of the season so far down the Washington line-of-attack.

Godon, come out of a match against Heads It got only three tackles and hit one QB in 56 shots, and was able to bounce back massively in just 42 shots. Godon was able to do 4 tackles, two sacks, and five QB hits against Dwayne Haskins on Sunday, securing his first bag of the season with him. Baltimore sacked Haskins only three times in the match, but Godon was able to get steady pressure not only in the passing game with his five QB and Kisen strokes, but also in the running game by getting two losing tackles.

Often I felt like Godon was always there and ready to put on a play. Godon was on the field for less than 60% of Baltimore’s defensive hits, but despite that he was able to influence 14 separate passes, and even defend a pass, which he rarely does.

Godon was able to play a stunning match in calmness against that Washington attacking streak, and if this is the beginning of a shift for him this season where we can expect more matches like this, the league may need to be alerted.
