Dirty reviews and critically acclaimed guest reviews have led Britannia Hotels to be named the worst hotel chain in Britain for the eighth year in a row.
Described by one guest as a “filthy hut” and another as “the dirtiest hotel room I’ve ever stayed in”, Britannia backs the table in which? Rankings of the best and worst large hotel chains in the UK.
The consumer group said Britannia, which has 62 hotels across the country, scored 37% of customers, with no cleaning of concern. One of the most blunt reviews, she said, was so bad that it was “unprintable”.

Which? I asked over 4,000 people to rate their UK hotel experiences based on a range of criteria, including bedrooms, bathrooms, hygiene, customer service and value for money.
This Premier Inn has been chosen as the best budget chain. It ranked second on the table with 82%, and was surpassed only by luxury brand Sofitel, which offers rooms at an average of £ 148 a night, compared to £ 60 at the Premier Inn.
Holiday Inn Express and Hampton by Hilton have also been called “Recommended Service Providers”. Warner Leisure and Hotel Du Vin have been named the top two small and medium hotel chains.
Rory Bolland, editor of Which? Travel said: “It seems that even a global pandemic cannot force Britain to clean up its work. At best, it’s bland and old, and at worst it’s completely dirty – and after eight years at the bottom of our survey, our message is loud and clear: avoid these hotels .
“While the Premier Inn remains a firm favorite, this year UK hotels are clearly becoming more than just a place to be in, but a destination in themselves. With fewer of us traveling abroad this year, our survey shows that when it comes to With the vacation at home, we are happy to pay more for a little luxury. “
