Entertainment : Veteran actor Dennis Hopper battles prostate cancer and files for divorce
|
| on 2010/1/19 7:10:48 (157 reads) |
|
(Prudent Press Agency)--- Veteran actor Dennis Hopper is spending his time "surrounded by family and friends" as he battles prostate cancer, according to The Huffington Post. But he appears to have decided that that family numbered one too many. On Thursday, the co-star and director of the classic 1960s counterculture movie Easy Rider filed for divorce from his wife of 13 years, Victoria Duffy.
Dennis Hopper began his film career in the mid-1950s. He started acting as a teenager, eventually signing a contract with Warner Brothers in the early 1950s.
While filming a small role in Rebel Without A Cause (1955), Hopper befriended fellow actor James Dean. The two appeared together again in Dean's last film, Giant (1956), which was made before Dean's fatal car crash. But it wouldn't be until 1969 that Hopper would score his greatest success on screen with Easy Rider. The film follows a road trip made by two counterculture hippies on motorcycles played Hopper and Peter Fonda, capturing a moment in American history. In addition to his starring role, Hopper directed and co-wrote the film with Fonda and Terry Southern. The film received two Academy Award nominations—one for a then-unknown Jack Nicholson for Best Supporting Actor and one for Hopper, Fonda, and Southern for Best Original Screenplay.

(Prudent Press Agency)--- Matthew McConaughey and girlfriend Camila Alves welcomed daughter Vida Alves McConaughey just after midnight Sunday.
On Sunday, Jan. 3rd at 12:13 a.m., Camila gave birth to a healthy 7lb. 7oz. baby girl. "Vida is Portuguese for 'life' and that's what God gave us this morning, McConaughey said."
Matthew McConaughey is a Hollywood leading man whose insouciant charm has played especially well in romantic comedies like The Wedding Planner (2001, with Jennifer Lopez) and Failure to Launch (2006, with Sarah Jessica Parker). A film student while at the University of Texas in Austin, McConaughey hooked up with filmmaker Richard Linklater for a memorable big-screen debut as a stoner Romeo in the 1993 comedy Dazed and Confused. He reached heartthrob status after Boys on the Side (1995, with Drew Barrymore), and by the late 1990s he was starring in big budget movies such as A Time to Kill (with Sandra Bullock) and Contact (1997, with Jodie Foster). McConaughey is known more for his outright handsomeness than his onscreen intensity. His credits include Steven Spielberg's Amistad (1997), Frailty (2001), Reign of Fire (2002, with Christian Bale), How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003, with Kate Hudson) and Sahara (2005, with Penelope Cruz).
