Politics & World Affairs : Will Joe the Plumber and Soccer Moms Bail out the USA in November 2008
|
| on 2008/10/25 4:41:41 (234 reads) |
(Prudent Press Agency)--- Can blue collar workers like ‘Joe the Plumber’ and the busy soccer moms swing the election away from the current Obama leaning trend? The answer is an unequivocal and resounding yes; but why should they. Let’s see.
With Barack Obama still holding the edge in most polls is the conservative ship in danger of sinking? Some say no. They say that it is now up to the average American citizen to look away from everyday cares and take a gander at the rhetoric and the facts about election 2008. What are the facts?
Is it really about the Dem’s and the GOP? Is it really the disparity between liberalism and conservatism? Is it really just about the economy? The answer from the average American may be no, no, and no; and here is why.

Religious and Spirituality : Joe Biden the Presumptive Vice Prophet – Crystal Ball in the White House?
|

(Prudent Press Agency)--- Joe Biden has taken to making predictions on his campaign romp across the state of Washington. No one so far has asked the Senator how he got his information or by what means he deduced this future vision, was it a dream or a portent in the night?
Only the presumption exceeds the prophecy in arrogance with still two weeks till the final vote perhaps Joe Biden’s confidence comes from a star passing too close to his dream of power. Talking about the details of the unknown is pompous enough but before the American people have had their say at the polls makes Biden look more puffed than prognostica-torial.

Automotive : Miles per gallon is top draw for over 50s car buyers
|
| on 2008/10/25 3:40:00 (665 reads) |
(Prudent Press Agency)---October 2008 - New research1 from RIAS Insurance shows that people’s fears about finances are causing a significant shift in preferences and patterns of behaviour when buying a new car. The poll revealed that 32% of over 50s in the UK would choose their next car based on how many miles per gallon it does, indicating that the days are gone when make, model or even colour were enough to swing a deal – buying a car is now more about economics than aesthetics, with substance winning over style.
For the over 50s age group, the next most important feature is low emissions (13%) which perhaps conveys both people’s environmental concerns and a growing awareness that lower emissions mean lower car tax charges – again, a cost saving benefit. The results also show that safety features would be a significant draw (12%).
Other features, previously considered important, now languish at the bottom of the league table: just 6% care about the make or model, only 1% would choose their new car based on its colour, and 2% would be tempted by on-board technology and gadgets. Very low numbers of over 50s, 4% of respondents, say they would be influenced by the age of the vehicle, and a meagre 5% said they would consider engine size, namely potential speed, when deciding on which car to purchase.

Business & Finance : Some Slipping on Shipping
|
| on 2008/10/25 2:30:00 (263 reads) |
(Prudent Press Agency)--- Two things are clear: online retailers are paying more to ship goods to consumers, and many shoppers want to pay little or nothing for shipping.
So what’s an online retailer to do?
AnInternet Retailersurvey of 14 larger Internet merchants across several categories finds five have raised at least some of their shipping fees in the last year. The rest have kept fees steady, in some cases trying to trim expenses elsewhere to cover their higher delivery costs. (See chart on facing page.)
“Pricing shipping rates is definitely a balancing act between giving our customers low or free shipping and trying to cover our costs,” says Sue De Boer, supervisor of pricing at Amway Global/Quixtar, a direct marketer of health and beauty products owned by Alticor Inc. The retailer has raised its shipping fees on orders above $120 by between 80 cents and $2, about 5%.
Most of the retailers surveyed said they would offer some shipping promotions during the upcoming holiday season. But offering deals on expedited shipping will be especially tough, because carriers are imposing higher surcharges for air delivery than for ground shipping.
The dilemma
The pressure on retailers to offer good deals on shipping is greater than ever because many consumers are turning to e-commerce sites as a way to avoid paying higher gas prices, which have increased from an average of $2.78 a gallon a year ago to $3.85 last month, according to the American Automobile Association.

"One of the things that separates us from any other service is that at The Relationship Company we pride ourselves on listening to our clients and responding to their needs," said Daniel Oneal, President. "The major 'downside' that we heard from clients about their online dating experiences was that, while they enjoyed the idea of meeting someone compatible online, they were frustrated by the fact that with online dating sites they couldn't verify if the person was in fact, who they said they were. To fill this important need in the industry, and to enhance our clients experience. We have now introduced live, real time, background verification, thus far, the response has been phenomenal!"

Marriage & Family Life : Raising "Advantaged" Kids - (An everyday, ordinary mother and her guide to teaching)
|
| on 2008/10/24 22:07:15 (269 reads) |
(Prudent Press Agency)---As a mother of 2 - a 4-year old and an 18-year old, it was important to me that I give my my children all that I have to offer as far as education (I don't have much...a high school diploma and 1 year of college). So, for me, I had to become creative in my efforts to give my children "the edge" in school and eventually in life. I've always had a mind set that I would not leave "schooling" totally up to the teachers. It started with my first born. Before he could talk, I would recite the alphabets and count to 10, constantly. I knew that somewhere, in the back of that tiny little mind, that the information was being stored for later use. Before reached the age of 2, like my second born, he too could say his A-B-C(s). My second born also learned to recognize as well as say them and later, I will explain why. My 18-year old could also count to 50. By the time he began preschool, he could recognize small words (I would read to him often and as I read, I would point to each word and say them aloud). When he spoke "broken" English, I would always correct him. As a child in school, I loved English and it was fun teaching hi the correct noun/verb usage. Even now, his favorite subject is English and he's always made excellent marks in this area. He is an excellent and very creative writer. He, of course, already knew colors and shapes as well.

Child Care & Parental Guidance : Paying For Your Holiday Shopping By Doing Your Holiday Shopping
|
| on 2008/10/24 12:20:00 (376 reads) |
(Prudent Press Agency)---Before you know it, the holidays will be upon us. If you're smart, whether you are first considering mystery shopping, or are a seasoned mystery shopper, this year, instead of running up the credit card bills, how about doing your holiday shopping the smart way? By getting paid while doing it!
I am not a big fan of relying on retail mystery shopping as a major source of income. Top-earning mystery shoppers focus on conducting research for companies that fall into the service category such as apartment complexes, home builders, financial service companies, testing centers, car dealers and fitness centers, and do the technology-based shops (audio and video-taped). But since you are likely going to be hitting the malls and your local stores, as well as eating out more as you rush around trying to get everything done once the season is in full swing, you might as well have a game plan in place to get paid for as much of that effort as possible.

Child Care & Parental Guidance : The Red Balloon of Happiness
|
| on 2008/10/24 12:00:00 (290 reads) |
(Prudent Press Agency)---Just when you think you know it all, some 17-month old child comes along and teaches you another valuable life lesson.
Little Lady lost her favorite ball. There are few things that bring this 17-month-old more joy than playing with her favorite ball. And, of course, we want our daughter to have all the happiness she can get.
So we headed out to the store to replace the missing ball. Little Lady enjoyed the outing, since there were so many exciting things to pull off shelves. And when we reached the ball aisle, she nearly jumped for joy. (OK, more like raced to the bin and started covering the floor with her joy, one bounce at a time.)
As we left the aisle, Little Lady was happy and smiling. She held her replacement ball in her hands as we walked up to the cash. While waiting to pay, Little Lady caught sight of a red balloon that had obviously been used for some promotion, but was now wandering aimlessly around the floor like a lost puppy.

Child Care & Parental Guidance : Elderly Drivers: Stop or Go?
|
| on 2008/10/24 11:30:00 (304 reads) |
(Prudent Press Agency)---Without so much as a tap on the brakes, my aunt whizzed through another stop sign.
"What are you doing?" I shrieked. "That was a stop sign."
"Oh," she replied rather offhandedly, "they just put those there so you'll look before you go into an intersection."
That was the day I stopped riding with my aunt but not the day she stopped driving. From then on, I had visions of an enormous pink Chevy leading a parade of cascading accidents. And I wasn't far from wrong.
She drove with what she knew to be the utmost caution. . . .never exceeding 30 miles per hour, even on I35! She expected, even demanded that traffic would give way to her like the seas parted for Moses. Sometimes, it did. But mostly, driving with her was a harrowing experience with no end in sight.
So, when do the elderly become a menace on the roads? And, what can you do when they refuse to give up the keys? Here are a few suggestions I've found.

Child Care & Parental Guidance : Scaling Down (Almost) Painlessly
|
| on 2008/10/24 10:50:00 (239 reads) |
(Prudent Press Agency)---Moving to a smaller house or apartment in a retirement community almost always involves a certain degree of trauma, both for the elder who's moving and for family members. However, by planning ahead you can reduce the discomfort involved and turn what might well become a nightmare into a pleasant event.
Begin by Planning for the Move
Where is the elder moving? Go to the actual house or apartment with tape measure, pad and pencil and write down measurements. Floor space is important, but don't forget about ceilings. Many elders own large pieces of furniture that may not fit into rooms with low ceilings. Your work here will determine which pieces can move with your elder.
And while you're at the actual location, talk to several other elders who already live there. What is their life style? Do they go outside the property on frequent trips? How do they dress? Casual lifestyles will require an entirely different style of dress than more formal ones.

Child Care & Parental Guidance : Saving Money By Spending Wisely
|
| on 2008/10/24 10:10:00 (1477 reads) |
(Prudent Press Agency)---Why is it that the older and richer people become, the more conservative they are with their money? Have you ever done or know someone who has made an investment that promised a 10% interest or profit per month? Everyone wants to make above average profits. It is amazing how many people will send their very hard earned money across the world to Nigeria or to Boca Rattan, Florida on the promise of a telephone acquaintance to make them much richer. People give their money to complete strangers in hopes of making more money.
All good investment advisers will tell their clients “If a deal is too good to be true, it probably is.” Professionals only make very high returns in areas they personally know very well. This, for them, is a business investment, not a passive investment like stocks, bonds or mutual funds. Real estate and business investments are considered active investments. People who are employed by others do not usually make active investments, because they just do not have the time to watch a business investment, where big profits are always possible (as well as big losses.)

Education, Career, College & Alumni : Wish You Could Finance Your Studies?
|
| on 2008/10/24 9:40:00 (230 reads) |
(Prudent Press Agency)---Many people have avoided college because they though they couldn't afford tuition. While college is expensive there is no reason a student should let money put a stop to their education. There are many sources that help fund a person's college.
Federal financial aid, scholarships and tax credits and deductions are just a few sources that are there to help you. It would be beneficial for you if you gather first hand information about financial aid, the process of applying for a loan, opportunities that are there to win scholarships and tax credits and deductions. Several government agencies work in coordination with college management to provide financial aid to students willing to pursue higher education.
There are several programs you may qualify for:
When in search of financial aid try grants first. Grants can cover the entire cost of attendance and do not have to be repaid. They are available through state and federal governments and are available based on a student's income or that of their parents.
