Laser Lipo

"I did not have to be put under general anesthesia and felt nothing after local anesthetics were injected," Jamie says. "No anesthesiologist was required and I had a little muscle relaxer just before surgery."

Facial Liposuction

SmartLipo MPX™ removes love handles, fat deposits from the stomach, thighs, buttocks, and upper arms. Even smaller areas of fat can be removed from the neck and face.

Because the Smartlipo MPX™ system speeds surgery by using two laser systems combined in one intelligent instrument, the precise amount of energy is delivered to the treatment area. The system is also extremely safe; the laser shuts down within two tenths of a second after the surgeons stops moving the hand piece.

Liposuction Fat

"One laser, the 1064 wavelength, has a strong affinity for melting fat," Dr. Millard says. "And it offers some heat for skin tightening." The lasers melt fat, which is then removed from the body.

The other laser, a 1320 wavelength device, heats water in the patient's tissues while melting some fat. The MPX lasers can be used together, in sequence or separately, depending on the layer in which Dr. Millard is working.

Lipo Recovery

However in ordinary tumescent liposuction, the shallow layers just under the skin are affected by a much larger cannula that uses a powerful suction to remove fat, along with some other tissues. That usually means more swelling, bruising, and numbness, because some nerves are also removed.

However, the Smartlipo MPX™ is far more gentle. For instance, the tiny incision required to insert the Smartlipo MPX™ treatment wand is only 2 millimeters. Consequently, the surgical openings do not require stitches afterwards.

"The 1064 wavelength is also absorbed by blood, so the patient experiences less blood loss and swelling," Dr. Millard says. "That also means less bruising, loss of sensation and faster healing, along with a quicker return to the patient's normal activities."
