Health, Fitness and Drugs

(Prudent Press Agency)--- Recent research of amblyopia or lazy eye as it is more commonly known have shown that appropriate eye exercises or vision therapy can have positive results especially if the individual is treated at a young age. Research shows greatest results if the individual started treatment before the age of 5, however a full recovery is very likely once treatment begins before the individual reaches the age of 17 and even adults who have never been properly diagnosed or treated can show improvement provided they are motivated and understand what they need to do.

It is estimated the 1 – 5 % of the population suffer from ‘lazy eye' although the term lazy eye is not very accurate as the condition is a result of the brain not reading the signals from our eye properly and therefore lazy brain may be a more appropriate description. Amblyopia is a developmental problem in the brain, not an organic problem in the eye.

The basic cause of amblyopia is having one eye with better vision than the other. This can result in the brain receiving different signals from our eyes and placing more emphasis on the stronger eye for our vision, thus reducing the amount of use our weaker eye gets and not allowing it to develop properly. The usual treatment for this is an eye patch or drops in the stronger eye so that we are forced to use the weaker eye which allows it to develop.

Like all other eye problems it is essential that our eyes are allowed to be mobile and prevented from staring or squinting which can be very harmful. Therefore it is important that we undertake appropriate eye exercises to teach our eyes to relax and focus properly while we go through the treatments for amblyopia.

Relax and take time out for yourself, is the best cure for any vision ailment. As recent research of amblyopia has demonstrated it is important that the treatment we receive is aided by maintaining our eyes in the best possible way using eye exercises. If you would like to learn more about eye exercises and their benefits in dealing with all eye ailments then go to http://www.bettervision.info/ where you will find lots of detailed techniques.
